Field Experience

I interned at Telegraph Hill Community Center as a garden intern! I interned under Jasmine Hormati Nutrition/Garden coordinator at Telegraph Hill Community Center. Our gardening is focused on growing fruits and vegetables and teaching children where they come from and how to garden. Jasmine was also in the Nutrition Assistant Program at City College of San Francisco.

The Garden Intern assists the Garden and Nutrition Coordinator with garden maintenance (i.e. weeding, watering, harvesting, composting). The purpose of this internship is to learn about organic gardening techniques and gain insight into operations of a garden-based educational program.
Duties for the Garden Intern:
-  Assist with garden tasks (i.e. identifying plant disease, pests, watering, weeding, planting, harvesting, etc.) -  Help with programming, including curriculum development, teaching and setting-up/cleaning-up -  Assist with on-going projects according to organizational need and individual intern interest/skills.

From this experience I've learned how much kids really enjoy gardening, they're constantly engaged and get satisfying results.
